Shannon Morrow
Percussionist Shannon Morrow has been focusing on creative music for more than 15 years.  Her early training in visual art (BFA Painting 1992) inspires her search for spontaneity and expressiveness in music and sound.

Shannon Morrow is an improvisor, Soundpainter, Deep Listening Instructor, and rhythm circle facilitator.  While living in Chicago, IL, her need to explore creative sound led her to study with percussion heavyweights and improvisors Michael Zerang and Hamid Drake, as well to participate in highly regarded improvisational ensembles such as Fred Lonberg-Holm's Lightbox Orchestra and Weave Soundpainting Orchestra.

Shannon believes strongly that the foundation of creative sounding begins with the practice of listening.  She is certified to lead workshops in Deep Listening, a creative practice developed by new music icon Pauline Oliveros.

Shannon is also a Certified Soundpainter.  Soundpainting is the universal live composing sign language developed by composer Walter Thompson for musicians, dancers, poets, actors, and visual artists interested in working with the medium of structured improvisation.

Shannon is the founder and director of Scene of the Crime Rovers (Durham's independent rag-tag marching band), also founder and director of the Triangle Soundpainting Orchestra.
